10 Tips to Getting Better Gas Mileage

By: Alexis Tumber

1. Manual or automatic?
Many people now a days prefer driving the automatic car. It is much easier and less hassle. But with less hassle comes more gas that is being eaten up by the engine to let the car move. But with manual cars they are mechanically more efficient and they have the greater power in putting the car power down to the ground resulting to less friction loss. It’s as easy as saying that the less friction the car is losing the less gas is needed to get the car moving.

2. Tire Pressure
How often do you check your tire pressure? Do you even bother checking it? Well to say you must check your tire pressure every month. Here’s a fact inflated tires eat up more gas since it needs a lot of friction to get the car moving. According to Bryan Gregory the director of consumer education for Advance Auto Parts, “hat every pound per-square-inch that a tire is under-inflated results in a six-percent loss in fuel efficiency.”

3. Coasting
When coasting you must avoid abrupt stops, and when coasting it is much better to coast on a higher gear than on neutral gear. As neutral shuts off the fuel injectors which requires a lot of work for your engine to turn on the fuel injectors when you go, remember much works requires more fuel.

4. The Trunk
What’s on your trunk? Garbage probably, what you think? Then its time for you to empty the trunk and put away all those garbage to the trash where they belong. It is heavy for your engine carrying all those junk on your trunk it decreases the efficiency of the engine to work and requires a lot of fuel to get the car moving.

5. Know your limits
You have to know your limits. That’s the thing; you don’t have to drive beyond the speed limit all the time. Stay on track there’s no rush, isn’t it nice to know that you’re assured to get where you’re going in one piece?

6. Rev
Aren’t we so used of rev-ing up the engine before we turn it off? Well better stop that bad habit now because every time you rev up that engine the more fuel it eats up.

7. Right Gas
If you will check your car’s manual you can see that there is a recommended gas with the right octane level for your car. You must be able to comply with the recommended one the lesser octane you use reduces the efficiency of the car thus using up a lot of fuel.

8. Slowly
What’s with the rush? When turning your car on, take your time step on those accelerator slowly. Your car will start perfectly even if you don’t turn it on hurriedly.

9. Fresh air
Stuck on traffic? Frustrated? Stressed out? Well its time you put those air condition off and open your window. Isn’t it nice to breathe in fresh air, it makes you feel more relaxed and calm plus it saves up fuel. So the next time you get stuck on traffic put off the air condition open your window.

10. Cleanliness
Make sure you clean your car once in a while. The cleaner it is the easier it will be for your engine to move those hunk of steels to get you moving.
