A Total Beginners Guide To Affiliate Marketing

By: Jeffrey K Gross

Looking for a tried-and-true, scam free way to make money on-line? Then affiliate marketing might be just the perfect opportunity you are looking for.

Affiliate marketing, simply stated, is the process of promoting products and/or services that others have created, and generating commissions form any sales stemming from your promotion efforts. For many Web-based companies, affiliate marketers account for a lions share of their total sales, so they are eager to enlist new and motivated people to join their sales force.

To be a successful affiliate marketer, you dont have to make tons of sales calls or try to convince your friends and relatives to buy from you as you might have to do in other sales positions. In fact, the majority of your affiliate sales will most likely come from total strangers that you will never communicate with directly.

So how do you sell products to people without talking to them, and perhaps not even e-mailing them? There are several ways, but first it helps to explain a little bit how affiliate marketing works.

Companies that have affiliate programs provide those who sign on as affiliates with a special URL to use when promoting their product. To obtain your own affiliate link, you complete a brief application with your name, address and other basic information, as well as how you would like to receive payment for sales. One of the fastest and most reliable methods of receiving payment on-line is through PayPal, which a lot of companies use to pay their affiliates.

The seller then provides you with your own unique affiliate URL or link. This is the link you use to steer people to the product. When someone who clicks your link buys the product, the company knows which affiliate earned the commission for the sale.

How do people find and click on your affiliate link? The most successful affiliate markets try one or a combination of the methods below:

1.You can create a Web site of your own on a topic related to the product or services you are selling. For example, if the product is an ebook on how to win at poker, you could create a Web site that tells all about the game of poker, and include your affiliate link on every page of your site.

2.Creating a blog that focuses on topics that would interest the kind of people who might buy the product. Using the vitamin example again, write a series of blog entries regarding the benefits of various vitamins that include your affiliate link.

3.You can place classified ads with your link in on-line newsletters or on other peoples sites that are related to what you are promoting.

4.You can write articles on topics related to the product or service you are promoting and post them to one or more of the free articles databases on internet. Again, remember to include your affiliate link somewhere within or at the end of the article.

Finding affiliate programs is as easy as typing be an affiliate or affiliate program into any search engine. By doing so, you will soon discover the millions of opportunities out there for you to make money on-line through affiliate marketing.
