Active Skin Takes A Beating

By: Bratis Peralta

Q: I exercise outdoors every day, but seem to be getting wrinkles faster than my friends. What causes Wrinkles Brat?

A: As a guideline, wrinkles first appear around the yes and lips, but the aging process is a bit different for every person. There are about 1 million theories about aging, but I subscribe to the following:

1. Genetic aging
2. Environmental Aging (Sun, smoke and climatic)
3. Hormonal aging, which is obviously a very individual type of aging

Preventing wrinkles is therefore taking a very proactive approach to combating Environmental aging and taking good care of your internal youth machine. A short list of easy behaviors:

1. Drink plenty of water
2. Stay out of the sun between 12 and 3 pm, if you're able
3. Don't smoke
4. Eat right, exercise and take a bio-available multi vitamin if necessary
5. Moisturize daily if you have dry skin and/or live in a dry climate
6. Limit hot showers to 10 minutes or less per day
7. Use a sunscreen like Active Skin Formulas SPF
8. There are a ton of lotions and potions, if you're going to use one look for ingredients like: Vitamin B complex, flax oil, Green Tea (Camillia Sinensis) Extract, Aloe Barbadensis Extract, Rice Peptides, Acetyl Hexapeptide-3, Retinyl Palmitate (Vitamin A), Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E) and Alpha Lipoic Acid.
9. Clean your face! If you wear makeup, take it ALL off every night!
10. Use Sunscreen (I know I already said that, but I can't say it enough)!!

You may have experienced the tell tale signs for quite some time: texture changes in the skin, wrinkling, irregular pigmentation or inelasticity. You may have enlarged sebaceous (oil) glands. Sometimes, precancerous and cancerous lesions can occur with aged and photo aged skin. Sunscreens and sun protection are important to prevent further progression of photo aging.
Your skin requires accelerated care as you age! Our skin doesn't regenerate new cells at the same rate, and environmental and biological factors greatly impact how we age. Products that allow for cell management (creams, for instance), would be your best bet. You want to focus on those products that contain ingredients like Vitamin B complex, flax oil, Green Tea (Camillia Sinensis) Extract, Aloe Barbadensis Extract, Rice Peptides, Acetyl Hexapeptide-3, Retinyl Palmitate (Vitamin A), Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E) and Alpha-Lipoic Acid.

Aging gracefully is the best revenge, until we are able to jump into a time machine or take a dive into that ever-elusive fountain of youth. Clean your skin daily, moisturize as necessary and WEAR SUN SCREEN!

This may sound a bit over simplified, but it truly isn't. It only takes a few minutes a day to keep your skin healthy, fresh and looking its best! My best advice is still Sunscreen
