As of late, the South African Reserve Bank has had to make some tough decisions in regards to our interest rate. Increased credit spending and a possible US recession are two issues at the root of our current interest rate problems. In addition, our major trade deficit plus the falling value of the rand is amongst other factors being taken into account.

All of these factors have a direct effect on us the consumer, in terms of luxury goods. Housing, gadgets, clothing and autos are all high on the list of top-grade purchases that we are scaling back on in terms of size and quality. Therefore, when you are deciding to purchase a new luxury vehicle, it may make sense to rent over the long term as opposed to purchasing a new car outright.

Rather test your chosen vehicle for a couple of weeks and see if the car is the perfect fit for you before diving into a large purchase. Personally, I was torn between two fine models, both manufactured by Mercedes Benz. The ML350 and the Chrysler Voyager were both options for me, having the requisite Sedan styling’s and four-door option I desired. I needed a car that would not only look stylish for my business meetings, but could also be comfortable and safely transport my family. The rental process was quick and painless. I hopped online and selected the ML350 for a two-week rental, at a cost of less than $190.00 per day! The car was dropped off outside my business, the papers were signed and I was on my way. The two weeks went by in the blink of an eye. Shortly after the ML350 was picked up, I instantly went online and booked the Chrysler for a two-week period as well. Both vehicles performed very well and it was a tough decision in terms of which to purchase; but in the end, the Chrysler won me over.

Without a doubt, auto rental in the light of the rocketing interest rates is a safe bet. Before diving in to a large-scale purchase, I made the smart choice and tested my vehicle before deciding on it. Even if you are only renting for the weekend or a couple of days, auto rental is a painless way to drive the car you have always desired.
