Well, what can Internet users do to defend themselves against spyware and malware? The good news is that there are reliable programs. But on the other hand, sometimes the fix is too painful.

For example, last week I downloaded such a program for free. This program was supposed to protect me. When I ran it, quite naturally it discovered millions of threats. But to my surprise, the free lunch ended here, because the program asked to upgrade to the full version (which was $50), if I wanted the pests removed. What a blackmail!

But the drama didn�t end here � the program continued to harass me even after I had closed it. It kept displaying messages such as �You are at risk of identity theft�, �Do you know who is spying you?�, etc. Of course, this didn�t make me willing to buy the full version and I decided to uninstall the program.

Imagine my surprise when a message informed me that access is denied! My computer and my files, and I cannot add or remove programs of my choosing! Want to bet? In the end, I had to do a system restore to a point in time prior to downloading the program that is supposedly designed to prevent such problems.

The time has come to find the software to a program I can trust and comes well recommended. One of the best solutions I have found is Ad-aware. Personally, not having a lot of extra money to spend, I am perfectly content with last year's free version. However, there are also Pro and Plus versions available at a reasonable fee. Presumably, the paid programs have added features, and probably scan computers in greater detail.

Actually, restoring the system to a point before I installed the program was the solution. The worst is that this program was exactly what one must avoid when downloading software, especially freeware. Very often it is cheaper to buy a good spyware and adware detection and removal program, then to download a pest for free.

So, if you use the Internet a lot, you really need a trustworthy spyware and adware detection and removal program. Even if you are always on the watch out and don�t visit suspicious sites, your computer is like a house without a door, when you have no good spyware and adware detection and removal program.
