Simple To Discover And More Painless To Use - Public Domain Music Downloads

By: Isaiah Henry

When you stop to think about the number of songs that have been recorded over the past several decades, it is mind-boggling. Some websites advertise they have more than 5 Million songs available for download! It is hard to imagine that you cannot find exactly what you are looking for when you have millions of songs to choose from. Many of these songs are now considered public domain and can be downloaded to your PC or laptop.

Another good option is to visit online music stores. The best know of these stores is iTunes. Currently iTunes charges $0.99 per song. iTunes allows you to listen to the music before you actually have to purchase anything. It is a great way to check out some songs you are not sure you want to buy. In most cases, you can listen to the entire song before you buy. Also, a great advantage is that you can purchase one song if that is all you want; you dont have to purchase the entire album or CD.

There is a lot of really good public domain music available online which will not cost you a penny. It really depends on what type of music you are looking for. Free, legal music is often along the lines of university orchestral performances. If that is not your cup of tea, you still have many options available. Some recording artists allow their songs to be downloaded from their websites. Usually, you will get only part of a song, which they hope will entice you to purchase the whole CD. It is definitely worth checking out your favorite band or artists websites to see if they offer free downloads.

Public domain music download sites are all over the internet. If you just search public domain music download, you will receive links to dozens of sites. Many of these sites cater to a certain type of music, i.e. Country, Jazz, Rock, Blues, etc. Other sites carry many genres of music.

Public domain music downloads are available from many reputable sites. Among the most popular are Napster-Tunes, which has more than five-million songs and 250 genres represented. MyRhapsody.com and 1000Musicdownloads.com are two other sites worth checking out. Most sites will allow you to download songs for free during a trial period. Most trial periods range from one to three weeks maximum. After the trial period, you can join and pay a nominal membership fee. The monthly fee is usually considerably less than what you would expect to pay for one CD or album.

Many peer-peer (music file sharing) sites exist that also make public domain music downloading very easy. Perhaps the biggest of these sites is Limewire. You can download a copy of your favorite song from someone in Singapore to your New York home in under a minute. Most often the songs at Limewire are of a very good quality. You must be careful when downloading from peer-peer sites, however, because sometimes songs are mislabeled or the wrong artist is attached to them. You have no way of knowing this until you have downloaded the song. That does not happen very often at all and its actually a small price to pay to gain access to an immense volume of music.
