The Innovative - Napster - At This Time Presents Latest Products

By: Isaiah Henry

Napster has recently announced it will now be offering MP3 downloads. Never a company to be left behind, the pioneer in music downloading is eager to face this new market challenge. Per their CEO and Chairman, Chris Gorog, I am happy with the progress that Napster has made. No doubt, Gorog is counting on continued success in the MP3 offerings Napster is set to launch also.

Now, Napster is poised to launch its offering of MP3 music files. Did Napster miss the MP3 boat or will they be able to compete? Only time will tell. Sites which offer MP3 downloads, like Internet Underground Music Archive, MP3.com, LiquidAudio and RealAudio have already been offering these types of downloads for quite a while. Some innovative recording artists offer MP3 downloads from their websites their scope is limited so they pose little threat.

The biggest competition that Napster faces is from the folks at Apple who distribute the immensely-popular iPod and own the iTunes Music Store. According to Robert Enderle, CEO and Chairman of the Enderle Group, I cant picture many iPod and iTunes users shifting to Napster since iTunes software is so integrated with Apple music players. In addition to that, iPod owners and regulars at iTunes Music tend to be a very loyal bunch. Enderle is not alone in his thinking, other experts agree there is little to lure users from iTunes a site many have come to know and trust completely.

Releasing more control of MP3 files might happen more quickly than the recording industry may have liked. This is due to the incredible popularity of the iPod and iTunes Music Store. The iPod is the premier MP3 player and many millions of people shop at iTunes Music.. Napsters biggest competition, by far, comes from Steve Jobs and the other brilliant people at Apple. Mr. Robert Enderle (principal analyst at the Enderle Group) has stated I cant picture many iPod and iTunes users shifting to Napster since iTunes software is so integrated with Apple music players. Mr. Enderle is not alone in his skepticism; many other experts cannot fathom iTunes users making the switch to Napster.

Robert Enderle, however, does not indicate there is no hope for Napster to grow in the MP3 arena. Napster might have a chance if they choose to focus on the right competition. Enderle feels if they focused on competition with the likes of Amazon, they would have a greater chance of succeeding. Why is Amazon a good target for Napster to pursue? Because Amazon is not primarily a music download site.

The music industry continues to evolve and change and so does Napster. Gorog hopes they will both continue to grow and prosper at unprecedented rates.
