When Race Discrimination is a Disgrace

By: Atty. Gabriel Cosh

If you are a believer of the Christian faith then you must have heard the story of Noah and his well-popularized ark, how the same actually saved human beings from complete obliteration, and how we have the several races we have today. After such dreadful event, it was promised that never again will man be placed in such a compromising situation, and that from such time forth the breed of man would be so massive as would incorporate multiple races.

If we were living during the time of Noah, then it would have been a no-brainer, and we should not even have the occasion of discussing such topic as racial discrimination, for they only have one family surviving, and logic dictates that they actually belong to one race. Nevertheless, with such command as to flourish and to spread the human breed, the remaining man went into earth’s end spreading what may seem like a brewing gap between peoples, because of such, racial discrimination has of course came about. It was inevitable, with man having his own territory to control and preserve. And, with man’s inert nature to fight for what he thinks is the best racial discrimination has been prevalent.

It has actually prospered even in our present times. Racial discrimination has been abundant not only in the social economic standing of people, but even in the employment condition of an individual. Racial discrimination has in fact been so alarming that it is now considered as an unfair labor practice, and an abhorred conduct in the workplace. It is manifested when rights and privileges are not equally given, or that a person is unnecessary favored or maltreated on the sole basis of his or her race. The differences in the provisions and benefits in employment made solely because of the prevailing race of an individual has been one of the clear manifestations of such discrimination based on race. The worst scenario that could actually happen is when an employee gets terminated on a guise of employment when the real reason would be because of his or her ethnic bias.

Indeed, racial discrimination has gone a long way, from the times of Noah, to as complex a system as it is today. If we were to think, we came from the same race, same ethnic bias, if only we dig deeper, and reflect.
