Who Is Pathologist’s Assistant?

PA is pathologist’s assistant and this person does all necessary work under the control of pathologist even makes the diagnosis. In general PA makes various surgical procedures, looks after surgical pathology examples and is responsible for the carrying out of autopsies. Also PA has t carry out various tests and examinations and fulfill such administrative duties as to take care of bills and to provide necessary maintenance of equipment. PA also can help to medical students during their medical trainings and internships.
In order to get the position of pathologist’s assistant, it is necessary to finish accredited pathologist assistant program. But is it more preferable to get bachelor degree. There are also cases when master’s degree is required or presence either certification or membership of such recognized organizations as AAPA (American Association of Pathologist’s Assistants) or ASCP (American Society of Clinical Pathologists).
I general, nowadays the necessity in more and more medical specialists increases and such speciality as pathologist’s assistant is not an exception. According to the studies carried out by the AAPA, the average salary of pathologist’s assistant can vary from $60 000 till $90 000 per year. And if you are PA with experience, you may expect for the income running into six figures.
