Wrinkle Creams: the Whole Spectrum

By: Geoff Hopkins

The customer today who notices a few crow's-feet appearing in the mirror has a very wide menu of options from which to choose. Many wrinkle creams are on the market, with a wide variety of ingredients. It seems like every day a new formula is discovered and hyped to the skies.

But do they work? Some do and some don't. How can you tell which product works best for your particular skin? The 'trial-and-error' approach is tried by many, with spotty results. An incautious consumer can be left with both an empty wallet and those same, unsmoothed, crow's-feet leering in the mirror.

What to do? There is no single ideal product. The different skin cream formulations work differently for different people. What kind of skin do you have? Humankind are not a line of little tin soldiers, each identical to his comrade; we are all different. If your skin is delicate, a preparation that works well for someone else may irritate you. Look for one that is advertised as safe for sensitive skin. Handle the product: if you dislike the feel of a dense, oily skin cream, you will be unlikely to stick it out long enough to get results.

Another area to consider is the environment. Some companies are more eco-friendly than others. If you are trying to live a greener lifestyle, look for creams and products that come in recycled or recyclable containers. This is an easy way to contribute to keeping our environment protected for future generations.

Price is always a concern for most consumers. Sending for free samples can be an effective way to evaluate multiple products without breaking the bank. Once you find a product that you like, look for store brands with similar ingredients, which can save you a lot of money in the long run. Look for coupons in magazines to save money on brand-name products.

It can be difficult to evaluate results just by looking in your bathroom mirror. Gradual processes can be hard to verify. Your digital camera is the solution to this problem. A few 'before-and-after' photos will clear up any questions you may have as to the product's effectiveness. Once a week snap a self-portrait, using the same lighting so the results can be compared. You may be pleasantly surprised to see how much difference some of these products can make.

To get all the facts on the effectiveness of skin creams, do a little research. Don't just read advertising! Dermatologists have researched these products and published their results in specialized journals. One caution in evaluating scholarly research: was the product tested on animals, either by the manufacturer or the researcher? If this practice bothers you, you may be able to find a product innocent of it.

Finally, one of the best places to get information about skincare is your dermatologist. Make an appointment today and talk to an expert in the field. They may be able to help you decide on one of the many choices of wrinkle creams available. When it comes to wrinkles and skin care, the doctor knows best!
